Taking Gold

Following on from Australia’s most successful Olympics ever, it’s feeling like a good time to share some of our wins and recent happenings at CA. Before launching into our project, people and culture updates, it would be remiss of me as a female industry stalwart to not take this golden chance to highlight the Australian women’s team having carried the men in our medal tally. Enough said.

The Block, Season 20

CHANNEL NINE | PHILLIP ISLAND, VIC

Our 10th consecutive year in Melbourne with The Block is being played out at Philip Island in 2024. For our Client Channel 9, 2024 marks the 20th series of the realty TV phenomena. For CA, the constant takeaway over the years has been the depth of leadership, solid camaraderie and fun we’ve all come to expect while achieving extraordinary outcomes. Each year, the construction challenge has been bigger than the year before. 2024 has been no different. This year has us carrying out the necessary alterations and additions to 8 x existing holiday villas and caretaker’s residence with shared amenities to achieve 5 x stunning dwellings with incredible top secret extras you’ll need to watch to unveil. It’s feeling like a sweet blend of our very own Melrose Place and Disneyland.

Bar Lettera, Citadines

ASCOTT GROUP | NORTH SYDNEY, NSW

CA recently acted as client-side Project Manager for Ascott Group for the design and construction of their hotel hospitality venue at Citadines. Working alongside Jordan Design Studio and local contractor, Building Guild, we together under the leadership of Jay, delivered this outstanding venue on time and on budget. The venue has recently been shortlisted for the Restaurant & Bar Design Awards 2024 (Australia & Pacific) for Surface Interiors and Hotel.

Citadines Walker

ASCOTT GROUP |
NORTH SYDNEY, NSW

CA’s prelude to delivering this F&B venue for the hotel was working closely with Ascott and Billbergia on the identification, reporting and management of defects for the construction and handover of the hotel component of the extraordinary Fitzpatrick & Partners new landmark tower in North Sydney.

BtR & Co-Living

NSW

Once considered trailblazers in this accommodation sector, CA are now a safe pair of hands for developers of co-living and build to rent projects. We currently have over 500 coliving rooms on our dance card in various stages of project delivery. Our experience is a differentiator in the emerging fusion of the accommodation and residential sectors. This sector is a very good fit for CA based on our longterm hotel project niche. The power of community, nomadic persuasion and the appetite for ‘less is more’ in our modern lives are all significant factors in the rapid rise of this residential asset class.

“We currently have over 500 co-living rooms on our dance card…”

The CA way…

There are always plenty of CA project delivery stories to be proud of and share. We make good things happen. What’s recently come to light at CA is the dedication and long service of our team members. Three of the team are fast approaching 20 years of service, with another 2 approaching 10 years and there’s 3 team members at 5 years. Our culture at CA is our brand. I am deeply proud to steer a team known for their deep care, depth of knowledge and relationship- driven approach. Trust, truth and authenticity as core values have guided me on the CA journey.

Personally, my motivation from the get go has been for CA to be a vehicle for my lifestyle and an opportunity to control my work environment. The CA work environment enables team members to live their best lives in and outside of work. This year our Andrew has paddled almost 1,000 KMS as he prepares for his maiden bass strait kayak crossing, Bev has clocked up over 10,000km on her Harley Davidson (yep, she’s bad ass), Jay has taken an 8- week sojourn in Europe, and Victoria has recently returned from 6 weeks in Europe.

Longitude 131

BAILLES LODGES | YULARA, NT

For the past 2 years, CA has been working with Baillie Lodges. Our first engagement was client-side Project Manager for the refurbishment of The Lousie, Barossa Valley, SA last year. This year has had us in the NT steering a refurbishment of public areas and guestrooms at the iconic Longitude 131 at Yulara. Jess looked after both these projects from our Adelaide office.

“Jess worked collaboratively to deliver both on time and budget”

Quest Serviced Apartments

ASCOTT | WOOLOOWARE BAY, NSW

Our treasured partnership with Ascott had CA once again representing Quest’s interests with the delivery of Quest Shark Park as part of the Woolooware Bay’s new precinct by NOVM in partnership with Parkview. Elizabeth brought her experience to the role to ensure construction was in accordance with Quest’s Developer’s Brief, quality expectations for the Quest Brand were met, coordinate delivery of the FF&E and monitor adherence with program. We also acted as the intermediary between the Developer, Builder and Franchisee for the identification, reporting and management of defects.

Cultural Capital Celebrates 10 Years

Drenka’s long term side hustle, Cultural Capital celebrated 10 years in 2023. Cultural Capital has proudly become an esteemed go-to for bringing meaning to place at the intersection of public realm, curation, art practice, urban design and civic life. When invited 10 years ago to the board, Drenka was excited with the opportunity to join the multi-disciplinary team in an emerging urban development sector. Whilst not familiar with the public art and cultural placemaking realms, Drenka had faith in the power of art to move people and that ramping up the scale and presence of art in our neighbourhoods, cities and places could only be a seriously good thing. Navigating the crossover from art to commercial property development has been a facet of the business Drenka has been able to lend a hand. Cultural Capital took the opportunity to elevate Amanda Jelicich-Kane (pictured) to Managing Director.

Western Sydney School Finished

ASPECT | WETHERHILL PARK, NSW

CA’s incredibly rewarding work over the last 3 years with Aspect’s portfolio of schools has seen us recently complete the long-awaited revitalisation of the Wetherill Park campus. The results are life-changing for the students, teachers and parents as they provide a safe, comfortable, and flexible space for learning and developing.

Our Reconciliation Journey

Following on from CA’s inclusion in Reconciliation Australia’s Reconciliation Action Program in 2023, we remain committed to our reconciliation journey. Whilst as Project Managers we love a template, CA have from the outset of our reconciliation commitment wanted to make it a journey of learning, truth telling and experience rather than a box-ticking exercise. If you find yourself on a similar journey, we would love to connect and share.

Property Industry Foundation (PIF)

As part of homelessness week we joined PIF in packing up donations for Early Bird Cafe and Oasis Youth Services. Good people and massive impact.

Property Council Australia SA

CA is the proud event sponsor for the upcoming inaugural Property Council SA Hotel Outlook to be held 3 October 2024. A stellar line-up has been secured for a panel discussion to be moderated by our very own Jess Gould. The panel will cover growth in the region and how hotels are contributing to the conversation. It would be great to see all our hotel movers and shakers in attendance.

Little National Hotel Underway

DOMA GROUP | ADELAIDE, SA

CA is happy to have recently completed site establishment and demolition in readiness for the start of construction of Little National Adelaide Hotel. A lovely project milestone to mark 2 years for CA in Adelaide. CA is thrilled to be representing DOMA again following the delivery of the hugely successful Little National Sydney in late 2020. A big congrats to DOMA on the recent completion of Little National Newcastle, NSW.

Celebrating 2 Years in Adelaide

Our phones have been ringing recently with clients seeking a project manager on the ground in Adelaide who they trust to deliver. It’s no surprise given the substantial development earmarked for the city and region in the Adelaide Economic Development Agency’s ‘200 Major Projects Update’ report.
