Hotel, 53-55 Liverpool Street,
Sydney

We are pleased to be involved in the adaptive reuse of 53-55 Liverpool Street, Sydney as a hotel.

The site comprises of two separate 5-storey with basement, Federation Warehouse style buildings constructed in 1901 and 1907. Materially comprised of quarry faced sandstone and red brick externally with moulded sandstone decorative elements to the Liverpool Street façade, the buildings combined structure dominates the corner of Liverpool Street and Douglass Street. Internally, the building is supported by a hardwood timber post and beam structure and timber floor framing.

Great care has been given by the design team to maintaining and respecting the building’s utilitarian warehouse character, whilst also adapting it to the modern needs of its use as a hotel. Extensive coordination has been undertaken to address the complexities which come with maintaining heritage listed timber structures, in particular fire rating, structural loads, and waterproofing.
