From Big Block Reserves to Big Hearts
Tear-jerking finale for The Block 2025
CA is immensely proud of our 11 years of working on The Block with Channel 9. This year at Daylesford, VIC we built five magnificent new homes – a first for the show. There’s been so many ‘firsts’ with creative approaches to the show. Over the years we have converted hotels & warehouses to residences, relocated existing homes and carried out substantial conversions to make award-winning shows. There’s also been a consistent focus on regional towns with the recent Phillip Island and Macedon Ranges locations.

The Daylesford homes went to auction last week, and what a result.
CA congratulate all involved especially our winning contestants Britt and Taz. These two played and worked hard.
This year was particularly special as our Jess Gould and Drenka Andjelic attended the auction for the first time. Fun, anticipation, suspense and nervousness witnessed to the max.
Our biggest thanks goes to Channel 9 for their trust in CA for some 11 years and for once again putting CA to work already for 2026. Watch this space as we hit Mount Eliza and achieve amazing things all over again with the good eggs that are all things The Block.

Our student accommodation setting new benchmarks
The student accommodation sector is experiencing a fast resurgence since the unfortunate covid impacts. CA has been in deep with SJB and a stellar consultant team documenting the mixed-use student accommodation development at 263-279 Broadway Glebe. We are fast approaching tendering the construction/delivery of the project. CA conducted a detailed EOl exercise to find the right tender panel. It wasn’t easy. We found ourselves at times too small for the top tier contractors and too big for the next tier down and considering the old adage of whether size matters. Our experience so far, finding the right fit for the right scale of job does matter, but so does the quality of the product, the site location, and the appropriate partnering of Client and Builder. CA is confident we are delivering 120 unparalleled student accommodation studios in the Sydney market. We look forward to sharing project milestones.

Carriageworks Co-living
Work has taken off at Cornwallis Street, Redfern, following the recent approval of the first Construction Certificate. This 62-room co-living project came to us with an approved DA which we have re-designed via an approved section 4.56 modification to achieve cost and compliance feasibility. While authority approvals were underway we proved up demolition and activated the consent just days prior to it’s expiry. The new building layout is smarter, more functional, and designed for modern co-living needs.
We are pleased to be working with Mostaghim Architects who gave us a solution to balance efficiency, longevity and user experience.
CA have been working on this hot co-living asset class for almost 10 years. We are proud to have more runs on the board with co-living project delivery than most. Residential and hotel assets collide with co-living. The best of both worlds, high quality design, and none of the stuff we don’t need, to address the housing crisis.

Love is in the air
There was standing ovation goosebumps at the recent ReLove annual dinner, which was attended by our managing director, Drenka Andjelic.
A moving night of witnessing immediate change when good people come together and play to their strengths. So good to see so many industry friends. A privilege to be seated at the Erilyan table. CA has a long-running relationship with Erilyan. We introduced Erilyan to their very first project and are soon to announce an iconic NSW regional resort re-vitalisation together.
A registered charity. ReLove creates homes with kindness. It provides good quality rescued furniture and household items at no-cost to families in crisis, including women and children impacted by domestic violence, people experiencing homelessness and those coming out of incarceration.
A great organisation to get behind: https://www.relove.org.au/

Old soul, new style. The Rebirth of Adelaide’s Mayfair Hotel
There’s something about a heritage building that tugs at the heartstrings of a local community. When Construction Assignments were awarded the revitalisation of the Hydro Majestic Hotel in the Blue Mountains, NSW back in 2008, there was so much connection with community.
We are now experiencing a similar buzz with having been entrusted with the refurbishment of Adelaide’s beloved Mayfair Hotel. It seems so many locals have a connection and heartfelt affection for the iconic heritage listed art deco-inspired building.
CA is thrilled to be partnering with Ark Capital Partners, as their trusted client-side Project Managers for this prestigious refurbishment.

Tears & bittersweet team movements
After nearly 15 years at the heart of our business, Bev Hale begins her long service leave ahead of a well-earned retirement later this year.
Since joining us in 2011, Bev has been instrumental in shaping Construction Assignments into the certified, systemised, high-performing (and always human) company we are today. She’s the reason we run like clockwork and feel like family. She made us better daily.
During this transition period, we’re pleased to welcome Judith Milazzo into the role of Practice Operations. She brings a wealth of experience with a background in commercial litigation spanning over a decade and academic credentials.
Welcome aboard, Judith. We’re in safe hands moving forward.

Accolades & something fishy going on
Sharing more than just an office and our managing director, today we are sharing pride with Cultural Capital on two standout projects.
Already with national awards, these projects are now making waves on the world stage as both have been awarded in the 2025 International CODAawards for Public Art. Well done to Tony Albert in the Social and Climate category and Re-Right Collective (Dennis Golding and Carmen Glynn-Braun) in collaboration with CM+ in the Transportation category and all involved in bringing these visions to life.
And have you seen the new Sydney Fish Market yet? The Cultural Capital team recently did just that and were blown away by the stunning blend of architecture, landscaping, and public art. It’s a vibrant, beautifully curated space that truly reflects world-class design and creativity. This incredible project is proudly supported by the NSW Government and features a curated art program by Cultural Capital with Tess Allas.

Eat, Slay, Love
Last week, our team swapped their spreadsheets and steel-capped boots for sun and sneakers for our annual love-in.
We kicked off with a long, leisurely lunch by the water at Watsons Bay.
With high spirits we transitioned to the “slay” part of the day – a choreography session where we channelled our inner hip-hop stars. Dressed in matching tracksuits we learnt some slick moves, laughed a lot and discovered some hidden dance talents.
We cooled off with a dip, supper and sleepover at the Watsons Bay Boutique Hotel.
It was a perfect blend of relaxation, resetting and connection, particularly across our interstate offices.

Little National Hotel, Adelaide topping out
Our beloved Little National Hotel in Adelaide topped out this month. Happy tear.
Our client-side project manager, Jess Gould, and project administrator, Sam Morrissey, were on site for this momentous milestone with Alex Moulis of Doma Group, as well as Craig Weaver, James Kavaleros, Kenan Kovacevic, Parvez Malim, Anthony Paulino, Aaron Rigg, William Fizzalari, and many other project critical Synergy Construct team members.
We marked the occasion with a little’ ceremony at the top of the 22-storey building.
This ceremony represents more than just progress in construction, it’s a nod to the collective hard work of the team driving this project forward. Now, onto the next phase…not long now until we are sipping cocktails in the latest (& greatest) ‘little’ rooftop bar in Adelaide.
“More than a milestone – it’s a symbol of what teamwork builds”

Our Family Is Growing
On a personal note, we are thrilled the Construction Assignments family is growing. And better yet, its taking place globally.
Our own Jay Spencer and his partner have welcomed a beautiful baby girl in Japan.
Congratulations to the new parents on this exciting milestone. Parenting goes hand in hand with Project Management, eh?
